Trourist Attractions of Orlando
The most
important event that occurred that shaped Orlando’s historical position as a famous tourist destination was the opening of the vacation resort, Walt Disney World. Subsequent to this, tourism became the
centrepiece of the economy. Now Orlando has more theme parks and entertainment attractions than anywhere else in the world. The city is sometimes nicknamed “The Theme Park Capital of the
World”. Apart from Walt Disney World Resort, which is located approximately twenty one miles southwest of Downtown Orlando in Lake Buena Vista, the other prominent attractions are Universal Orlando
Resort, Sea World, Gatorland and Wet ‘n Wild Water Park. Universal Orlano Resort consists of two parks, Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure as well as other attractions including City Walk.
One thing to note is that with the exception of Walt Disney World, most major attractions are located along International Drive. Orlando is also nicknamed “The City Beautiful” and the fountain at
Lake Eola acts as the symbol of the city. For conferences and conventions, Orlando is one of the major cities in United States. Orlando also homes University of Central Florida, which is the second largest
university campus in the United States with respect to enrolment.
As of now, the historic core of “Old Orlando” can be said to be situated in Downtown Orlando along Church
Street, between Orange Avenue and Garland Avenue. Neighborhoods around Lake Eola form the present day historic district. Here century old oaks line brick streets. They are known as “Lake Eola
Heights” and “Thornton Park” and contain some of the oldest homes in Orlando.
